The workshop “From Vollach to Sappho” will comprise three interlocking components: reading ancient to contemporary poetry, practice, and reading the texts of the participants. Both the reading and the practice will focus on fundamental questions, such as time and space in a poem, syntax as the dwelling place of the Muse, relations between form and knowledge, and the seductions and dangers of "the lyrical I."

Presence in class is mandatory. One justified absence from classes is allowed, more will result in removal from course and/or a penalty in the final grade.

Workshop requirements are writing weekly assignments and active participation.
