The Primal Scene is a term coined by Freud to describe a primordial traumatic event that is inaccessible to memory and should therefore be retrieved in psychoanalysis. This term has been interpreted and criticized by numerous psychoanalysts and philosophers who asked for example: Does one find or invent the Primal Scene? What is the relationship between memory and creation? In this seminar we will examine these questions using psychoanalytical and philosophical tools and reading several literary texts which try to retrieve the lost origin of things and events.
