בימי הביניים היה הים מרחב של סכנה, דמיון ותשוקה. בקורס זה נעסוק בתיאורי מסעות ימיים בספרות בת התקופה מכמה תרבויות, ונדון במרחב הימי באופן השוואתי. בין היצירות שנקרא: שירי הים של שמואל הנגיד ויהודה הלוי, השיר האנגלי 'יורד הים', האפוס 'בייוולף', ועוד.
השיעורים יתקיימו באנגלית, וחומרי הקריאה יהיו אף הם באנגלית.
For medieval civilization the sea was a realm of peril ,anxiety and imagination. Throughout this course we will read and discuss some classic accounts of seafaring in medieval times, and study them compartively. Course materials will include sea poems by Samuel Hanagid and Yehudah Halevi, the anonymous English poem “The Sea Farer”, Beowolf, and more.
The lessons will be conducted in English, and reading materials will be in English as well.
