Humans, machines, spaces: human geography of technology
Technology has always shaped human spatiality. One cannot separate human development, social relations, and space design from the tools and practices produced with the intention of domesticating the environment, solving problems, or improving performances. The course will follow the complex relationships between humans, technology and space, in order to better understand the ways in which these are shaping the physical and human spaces alike. We will discuss several attitudes towards relations between humans, technology and space, touch the emerging field of nonhuman geographies, and analyze specific case-studies: cars and traffic lanes, CCTV cameras in the public space, cellular phones, "wearable computers", and more.
