The object of the course is to give a brief but comprehensive analysis
of environmental geophysics principles including some recent
advances in methodology of geophysical data interpretation. Environmental geophysics investigates a wide range of applied
problems, like dangerous near-surface phenomena (for instance,
karst terranes and rockslides), dangerous geodynamic processes
at the depth, some types of surrounding medium contamination, delineation of archaeological remains, solving problems associated
with infrastructure development, discussion of some military
problems, etc. (most examples are oriented to Israeli environments).
The course wraps the following stages: description of different kinds of geophysical
noise, review of filtering and transformation methods, analysis of geophysical data processing and interpretation in complicated environments [oblique polarization, rugged terrain relief and unknown level of the normal field], optimal integration of geophysical data, modeling of geophysical fields and development of physical-geological models of the studied objects.
