שיעורי המבוא יתקיימו במהלך הסמסטר הראשון במתכונת של פגישה אחת בכל שבוע של לימודים.בכוונת המבוא להקנות ידיעה בסיסית בהיסטוריה של יבשת אפריקה שמדרום לסהרה. נושאי הפגישות השונות אורגנו באופן כרונולוגי ויקיפו שלוש חטיבות זמן עיקריות: אפריקה בתקופה הקדם קולוניאלית; בתקופה הקולוניאלית ובתקופת העצמאות. הקורס יתחיל בסקירה כללית של ממלכות אפריקאיות וחברות סגמנטציות, דתות מסורתיות אסלאם ונצרות, עבדות וסחר עבדים, הכיבוש הקולוניאלי, מאבקי הדה-קולוניזציה, וצמיחת המדינות החדשות. הלימוד וההבנה של תקופות היסטוריות אלו, יעניקו לך בסיס איתן להבנת ההתרחשויות העכשוויות ביבשת אפריקה.

Course description
Introduction to Sub Sahara African History is a general survey of the history, culture, and politics of Sub Sahara Africa. Since it is impossible to provide in-depth coverage of so vast and diverse a continent, during each lecture session, I will draw on case studies from West, East, Central, and South Africa to offer an overview that will provide a narrative of a given theme. The course presupposes no background in African History, therefore during each session I will offer a lecture and overview that will provide a historical narrative of a given African theme. The course topics are arranged in a roughly chronological order. I will start with an overview of African kingdoms and small scale societies. We will then touch on African traditional religions, Islam, slavery, its abolition, the great scramble, and partition of Africa, colonialism in Africa, the de-colonization struggle and the rise of African nationalism. We shall end with an exploration of some neocolonial realities in the new independent African states.
