Course description
This advance course is dedicated to provide basic theory and practical skills to students using the electromagnetic radiation across the VIS-NIR-SWIR and TIR region (0.4-15m). A major emphasis will be given to soil and vegetation. Sensor’s and instruments to acquire the information remotely will be used in the laboratory and field domains and their operational principles will be studied. They will cover point to image spectroscopy using reflectance and emmitance radiation. The course will cover principles of spectroscopy in general and for environmental monitoring applications in particular. Practical utilization for remote sensing at far and close distances will be studied. The students will be exposed to the stat-of-the-art remote sensing technology in the laboratory and field domains using dedicate standards and protocols. Data mining processes (algo and codes) to quantitatively assess the soil and vegetation will be covered.
Grade will be composed of: 20% exercises, 10% presentation, 70% final report.
Prerequisite course: Obliged: Introduction to Remote Sensing Recommended: Soil of Israel, Introduction to geology, Introduction to geomorphology, vegetation physiology
