המשבר הפיננסי אשר הוביל להאטה הכלכלית בשנים האחרונות הוא לא רק שאלה כלכלית התלויה בגורמי המיקרו, ומאקרו-כלכלה , אלא משבר הנובע ומתייחס למגוון היבטים (ומושגים) רחב הרבה יותר, כגון גלובליזציה וסחר אשר בתורם נקבעים גם על-ידי גורמים כמו ערכים, נורמות ותרבות. בעיקר הם תלויי מקום וגם משפיעים ומעצבים את המקום – הם חלק מהגיאוגרפיה. מטרת הקורס יסודות הגיאוגרפיה הכלכלית היא להקנות את מושגי היסוד בתיאוריה הכלכלית (כמו היחסים בין ביקוש, היצע ומחירים) ועל בסיס זה להסביר את מושגי היסוד בתחום הגיאוגרפיה הכלכלית. נושאים עיקריים בהם יתרכז הקורס כוללים: שחקני מפתח בגיאוגרפיה הכלכלית, גורמי שינוי-כלכלי עיקריים, גלובליזציה, המימד החברתי-תרבותי בשינוי כלכלי, ונושאים עיקריים במחקר גיאוגרפי-כלכלי עכשווי.

Course description
An introduction to Economic Geography
(Includes in addition a class exercise)
The financial crisis which led to the recent economic downturn is not just a factor of micro and macro-economic issues, but is a crisis stemming from various many other aspects (and concepts) and relates to issues of globalization and trade, which in turn are determined by factors such as values, norms and culture. These factors are place-dependent, they are shaped by and shaping places and locations – they are part of Geography. The aim of this course is to explain the main principles of the economic theory (like the relationship between demand, supply and prices) and based on that explore the most fundamental concepts in the field of Economic Geography. Focus will be on: key players in economic geography, main economic-change factors, globalization, the socio-cultural dimension in economic change, and other topics in contemporary Economic-Geography research.
Assessment: Exam 60%, Exercises: 40%
