הקורס יעסוק בתהליכי קשב זיכרון, ומודעות המעורבים בעיבוד שפה. תחילה נעסוק בתהליכי קשב, נכיר סוגי קשב שונים, ונבחן כיצד תיאוריות שונות מסבירות את התופעות השונות הקשורות לקשב. בחלקו השני של הקורס נעסוק בזיכרון, נכיר מנגנוני זיכרון שונים, ואת המודלים התיאורטיים המסבירים אותם. בחלקו השלישי של הקורס נדון במודעות, נכיר פרדיגמות מחקריות שונות המאפשרות לחקור את המודעות באופן אמפירי, נבחן מצבי מודעות שונים, ותיאוריות לגבי המודעות. בכל אחד מהתחומים הנ"ל לאור ההיכרות עם התופעות והתיאוריות נבחן את מעורבותם של התהליכים בתפקודי שפה שונים כגון רכישת שפה, הבנת שפה והפקת שפה וכן מנגנוני שליטה ובקרה לשונית בקרב דו-לשוניים. מטרת הקורס היא שבכל אחד מהתחומים הללו יכירו התלמידים את הגישות התיאורטיות המרכזיות וכן מגוון של מתודולוגיות המשמשות את המחקרים האמפיריים בתחומים אלה, על מנת שיוכלו בהמשך דרכם לקרוא חומר מקצועי בתחום ואף לפתח מחקר משלהם.Course description
Attention, Memory & Consciousness in Language Processing
The course aims to introduce students to the cognitive processes of attention, memory and consciousness involved in language processing. We will begin with attention, learn about different types of attention, and examine how different theories explain the variety of attention phenomena. In the second part of the course we will learn about different memory processes and the theoretical models that explain them. Finally, in the last part of the course we will discuss consciousness, learn how it can be empirically investigated, and study different states of consciousness and the theories that explain them. In view of the phenomena and theoretical models we have discussed, we will examine for each of these cognitive processes how it is involved in different linguistic functions such as language acquisition, production and comprehension and bilingual control processes. The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the central theories, and the current methodologies used in empirical studied in these fields, and provide them with the knowledge required to read professional articles on these topics and the tools needed to develop their own research on the field.
