We will learn how to construct a character and how to lead it in the world amongst other characters. We will construct it segment by segment into a composite character presenting it in a number of facets as well as showing transformations it undergoes.

In the first semester we will do this by way of an apartment block: each one of the participants will adopt one of the tenants who will also be able to wield an influence over each other, as could happen in a thin-walled Tel Aviv apartment block. 

In the second semester, together we will create a family that each participant in the workshop assumes responsibility for one of its individuals: Father-mother, sons-daughters, aunts-uncles, grandfathers-grandmothers…. We will first attempt to see each one of them as themselves, and afterwards what happens in their contact with the others. We will examine what they reveal in the home and what they hide, and how incidents in the life of one influence the family as a whole. En route we will be assisted by choice texts from world literature.

After the fictive characters we will focus on the personal stories of the workshop’s participants – stories that have accumulated in the memory and in the soul and perhaps have not yet been given due expression. We shall attempt to delve deep into these stories and mold them into a work of literature – first each one with someone else’s story, and then his own story as well.
