In this seminar we will focus on the book of Kings, the time it was written, its historical background and the historical descriptions embedded in it, in view of current Historical and Archaeological research. We will focus on several important Biblical episodes, related to important sites (such as Bethel, Shechem, Samaria, Jerusalem and Mizpah) or on main historical events (the destruction of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, Sennacherib’s campaign, etc.). We will use the archaeological-historical data in order to better understand the reality behind the biblical description, its sources, as well as the historiographer's ideological, theological and political intentions.
