In this seminar we will focus on the historical and archaeological background for the days of the Deuteronomitic historiographer, as a research tool for the descriptions he wrote in the books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings. During the seminar we will focus on some important Biblical episodes, surrounding important sites (like Bethel and Mizpah) or main historical events (the destruction of the kingdom of Israel, Sennacherib campaign, etc.), and will try to use the archaeological-historical data, in order to better understand the reality behind the biblical description, its sources, as well as the historiographer's ideological, theological and political intentions in this descriptions.
