בקורס זה נתמקד באתיקה ופילוסופיה פוליטית במחשבה ההודית המודרנית ונדון בה דרך כתביהם של הוגים הודים מודרניים דוגמת סוואמי ויוקאננדה, שרי אורובינדו, ומ.ק. גנדהי, אשר העניקו פרשנות מחודשת ל"דת ההינדואית" במטרה לכונן יסודות עבור המודרניות ההודית. בנוסף, נדון "בחומרים" מאת הוגים בני-זמננו הן בהודו והן במערב, המצביעים על הקשיים המעורבים בניסיון לנסח "הינדואיזם חדש." על-סמך דיון זה נבחן את הרלוונטיות של הפילוסופיה ההודית המודרנית לחשיבה על שאלות של צדק חלוקתי, יחסי דת ומדינה, המשבר במודל הרב-תרבותי וסוגיות פוליטיות וחברתיות נוספות המאפיינות את העידן הגלובאלי הנוכחי.דרישות קדם: אין

Course description
This class focuses on ethics and political philosophy in modern Indian thought. We will read texts of modern Indian thinkers, such as, Swami Vivkananda, Sri Aurobindo and M.K. Gandhi, who attempted to construct the foundations for Indian modernity by reinterpretations of the "Hindu religion." In addition, we will discuss works written by contemporary scholars, from India and the West, who indicate the difficulties involved in the attempt to constitute "neo-Hinduism." On the basis of this discussion, we will examine the relevance of modern Indian philosophy to thinking on distributive justice, state and religion, the crisis of the multi-cultural model, and other social and political issues which characterize the current global age.
