תעשיית התיירות הינה אחד המגזרים העסקיים הגדולים והחשובים בעולם; בהתאם לנתוני ארגון התיירות של האו"ם, בשנת 2012 נסעו בעולם למעלה ממיליארד תיירים אשר מחוללים כ-10% מהתמ"ג העולמי וכ-8% ממספר המועסקים. בשנת 2011, מספר התיירים באפריקה עמד על כ-50 מיליון מבקרים - נתון המגלם צמיחה של 7% ביחס ל-2010. עבור מדינות אפריקה, פיתוח תיירות הנו כלי מרכזי ליצירת מחוללי הכנסה, פיתוח תשתיות, שילוב נשים בתעסוקה, קידום אזורי ספר וסיוע לקהילות החיות בתנאי עוני. מאידך, תיירות מקושרת עם נזקים אקולוגיים, פגיעה במבנה החברתי-קהילתי והשתלטות בעלי הון זרים על נכסים מקומיים. הקורס ייבחן את ההזדמנויות העומדות בפני מדינות אפריקה לפיתוח מקומי באמצעות תיירות, ואת האתגרים והקשיים הניצבים בדרך להצלחה.Course description
Tourism is one of the largest and fastest growing economic sectors in the world, and it is estimated to contribute 10% of the global economic activity. In 2012, International tourist arrivals grew to over 1 billion travelers, generating 30% of the world’s exports of commercial services. In 2011, tourism arrivals to Africa reached 50 million travelers - a growth of 7% from 2010. For African countries, tourism is a key for local and rural development, employment, economic growth, infrastructure development and poverty reduction. On the other hand, tourism is related to environmental degradation, negative effects on society and local communities, and leakage of local assets to the hands of foreign investors. The course will investigate the many opportunities that the global tourism industry has to offer to African countries, and the expected challenges on the winding road of sustainable development.
