הקורס עוסק בלימוד מבחר סוגיות בבבלי מסכת סוכה, תוך עיון משווה בירושלמי ובספרות התנאים. נעסוק במגוון נושאים שמזמנות הסוגיות, בהם מנהגי חג הסוכות בזמן המקדש וגלגוליהם לאחר החורבן, היחס בין הלכה ותיאולוגיה, בין מדרש ומסורת ובין ארץ ישראל ובבל בעיצוב החג, מצוה הבאה בעבירה, ידע מתמטי בתלמוד, ושאלות נוסח ועריכה בתלמוד. הקורס ישלב הוראה אקדמית עם לימוד עצמאי מונחה של הסטודנטים, במתכונת סדנה. בכל שיעור יינתן מבוא על השאלות המרכזיות בסוגיה, ולאחריו לימוד פעיל של תלמוד בקבוצות קטנות בליווי דפי הנחייה והסבר. בעקבות הלימוד יינתן שיעור, על ידי שני המרצים גם יחד, על הסוגיה שנלמדה. המבנה הייחודי של הקורס מאפשר לסטודנטים להתנסות בלימוד פעיל של התלמוד, וכן ליצור ולגבש קהילה לומדת.

Course description
The course will focus on a selection of sugiyot from Babylonian Talmud Sukkah, through a comparison with the Palestinian Talmud and Tannaitic Literature. We will discuss the range of issues raised by the Talmud, including the observance of the holiday of sukkot at the Temple and after its destruction, the relationship between halakhah and theology, homiletics and traditions, as well as the twin centers of Palestine and Babylonia. We shall examine, amond other things, the question of “a commandment facilitated by a sin,” mathematical knowledge in the Talmud, and questions of textual and redaction criticism.
The course will combine academic instruction with facilitated workshop learning conducted by the students. Each meeting will begin with an overview of the central questions of the sugiya followed by an active study of Talmud in small groups with guiding questions and explanations. Both instructors will give a lecture on the text following the. This unique format allows for active study of the Talmud and fosters the creation of a learning community.
