הסמינר יעסוק בסיפורת של שלושה סופרים ילידי הדרום של ארצות הברית, תוך ניסיון לעמוד על המכנה המשותף ביניהם כמו גם על המאפיינים הייחודיים לכל אחד מהם. האומנם "הדרום" הוא "גותי"? האם הכתיבה הרחק מן המרכז האינטלקטואלי של ניו-יורק מפרה או מגבילה? האם מעבר לייחודו הפואטי של כל אחד מן היוצרים ניתן לזהות מכנה משותף, שאפשר לכנותו "משא ההיסטוריה של הדרום"?
Course description
The Seminar will attempt a reading of three major fiction writers born in the South of the U.S.A. We will try to search for common denominators, as well as highlight the unique poetics of each of these writers. Is "the South" "Gothic"? Is writing far from the intellectual center of New York an asset in terms of originality and creativity, or is it a liability? Beyond the poetic special fingerprint of each of these writers, can we discern a common "burden"?
