D:\Inetpub\shared\yedion\syllabus\06\2014\0680\0680323901_desc.txt סילבוס מקוצר מטרת הקורס לבחון את הזרמים הספרותיים המרכזיים שחצו את המאה ה 19 דרך קריאתם וניתוחם של מבחר רומנים. בפרספקטיבה של היסטורית הספרות, הרומנטיזם, הריאליזם והנטורליזם הינם זרמים שמתקשרים לסופרים כויקטור הוגו, סטנדל, בלזק, זולה ועוד רבים אחרים. הקרע ההיסטורי שנוצר בין מה שקדם למהפכה ומה שבא אחריה מוצא ביטוי ביצירות בדיוניות רבות. בנוסף תהליכי התיעוש והעיור שמשנים את פני החברה מטביעים את חותמם על אופייה של הספרות, הן מבחינה סוציולוגית (שוק כלכלי של מו"לות, עיתונות, סופרי צללים, וכו') והן מבחינת מהותה ותפיסתה העצמית (הספרות הבדיונית כדוקומנט ? כיצירת אומנות מנותקת ? ספרות מגויסת?). שאלות אלה ינחו את קריאתם ואת ניתוחם של הרומנים הבאים: האדום והשחור מאת סטנדל (1830), סזר בירוטו מאת בלזק (1837), וסיפוריו הקצרים של גי דה מופסן. Course description The course examines the major 19th C. literary trends. A variety of relevant novels will be studied. We will implement the prism of history, literature, romanticism, realism, and naturalism to study writers such as Victor Hugo, Stendhal, Balzac, Emile Zola, and others. The historical chasm between what preceded the Revolution and what came afterwards is expressed in many fictional works. Industrialization and urbanization—changing the face of society—left their mark on literature, both sociologically (the consumer’s market, publishers, the press, ghost writers, etc.) and poetically through the ethos of the author and his relationships with his work (fiction as documentary, art for art vs literature and political involvement). Through those questions, the following novels will be analyzed and discussed in class: Balzac’s César Birotteau (1837), Stendhal’s The Red and the Black (1830), short stories of Guy de Maupassant.
