מרבית הטקסטים החיתיים שהתגלו עד כה עוסקים בדת. הטקסטים מספקים שפע של מידע הנוגע במאות אלוהויות, פנתיאונים ממלכתיים ומקומיים, שיטות אמונה שונות, מיתולוגיות, פסטיבלים של פולחן ממלכתי כמו גם פסטיבלים מקומיים, כוהנים, מכשפים ומכשפות וכן מומחי דת אחרים, מקדשים ומקדשי טבע, ריטואליים, מאגיה, תפילות ומאנטיקה. הסמינר יבחן סוגיות שונות בנושאי דת ומיתולוגיה באנטוליה החיתית, תוך מתן דגש מיוחד על בחינה והערכה של המקורות הארכיאולוגיים והטקסטואליים הרלוונטיים.Course description
The vast majority of the Hittite texts excavated so far relate to Religion. They provide a plethora of information concerning hundreds of deities, central and local pantheons, mythology, festivals of the state cult and numerous local festivities, priests, ritual practitioners and other religion experts, natural shrines and temples, traditions of ritual practice, magic, prayers and divination. In the seminar, we will examine religious traditions, practices and ideas prevalent in Hittite Anatolia, utilizing the rich textual and archaeological sources pertinent to the study of Hittite religion.
