הקורס יעסוק במערכות מידע גיאוגרפיות (GIS) ושימושיהן במחקר הארכיאולוגי המודרני. במסגרת הקורס נעבור על מחקרים שנעשו בארכיאולוגיה בעזרת GIS ונלמד באופן מעשי את תוכנת ה-ArcGIS ואת יישומיה השונים במחקר הארכיאולוגי. במסגרת הקורס נעבוד על נתונים אמיתיים מחפירות וסקרים שנעשו בארץ ונראה את הערך המוסף שיש לתוכנת ה-GIS באיסוף וניתוח המידע הארכיאולוגי, ברמת המאקרו (נתוני סקר ואתרים) וברמת המיקרו (נתוני ממצא וארכיטקטורה בחפירה עצמה). בין הנושאים שילמדו בקורס: Geo-Referencing (הפיכת תמונה למפה) ושרטוט תוכניות יומיות בעזרת ה-GIS, שאילתות מרחביות, ניתוח צפיפויות של ממצאים, מידול פני שטח תלת מימדי, חישוב שיפועי קרקע ואגני ניקוז וחישוב קווי ראיה.
בסיום הקורס הסטודנטים יוכלו לעבוד באופן עצמאי על תוכנת ה-ArcGIS בחפירות ובסקרים בהם הם משתתפים.
Course description
The course deals with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and their use in the contemporary archaeological research. We will study researches in archaeology that used GIS and will study and practice on the ArcGIS program using data that was gathered in surveys and excavations conducted in Israel. In the course we will see the added value of the GIS in procurement and analysis of archaeological data, whether in the inter-site level (landscape and survey data) or in the intra-site level (finds and architecture in one excavation).
Course subjects include Geo-Referencing (converting a jpg into a map) and drawing daily plans with the GIS, spatial queries, density analyses, digital 3D terrain modeling, slope and catchment area calculations, and viewshed analysis.
At the end of the course, the students will be able to independently use the ArcGIS software for analysis of data from surveys and excavations.
