As a central tenet of his philosophical project, Heidegger first appropriated and then extended Nietzsche’s diagnosis of European nihilism for his own purposes. Following a review of the 19th-century history of nihilism and Nietzsche’s key writings on this theme, we will closely read Heidegger’s lectures on Nietzsche (concerning Will to Power, art, technology and nihilism).
