גישות פרגמטיות (סמינר מ.א.) הסמינר ידון בשלוש גישות המאפיינות את שלל התיאוריות בתחום הפרגמטיקה. נפתח בתיאוריות המסבירות אינטרפרטציות על בסיס היסקים פרגמטיים (גרייס, ניאו-גריסיאנים ורלבנטיות). תיאוריות אלה מפרידות הפרדה מוחלטת בין הדקדוק לפרגמטיקה. נעבור לתיאוריות המשלבות היבטים פרגמטיים מסויימים לתוך הדקדוק: יחסי צורה-פונקציה קונבנציונליים לחלוטין, למרות שאינם רלבנטיים לתנאי האמת של הטענה המובעת. נסיים בתיאוריות המתמקדות בהשפעות הגומלין של הדקדוק והפרגמטיקה: כיצד עקרונות פרגמטיים מניעים כללים דקדוקיים, וכיצד אלה האחרונים מייתרים לפעמים את העקרונות הפרגמטיים עליהם הם מושתתים.

Pragmatic approaches
The seminar discusses the three leading approaches to pragmatics. We start off with theories which aim to account for interpretations based on pragmatic inferences (Grice, neo-Grice and relevance theory). Such theories draw an absolute distinction between grammar and pragmatics. We then move on to theories which incorporate some pragmatic principles within grammar, those which account for purely conventional form/function correlations that do not pertain to truth conditions. We end with theories focusing on feedback relations between grammar and pragmatics: how pragmatic principles motivate grammatical rules and how the latter sometimes render redundant the pragmatic principles they have evolved from.
