פונולוגיה מתקדמים אותי בת-אל
הקורס מציג תיאוריות גנרטיביות אשר התפתחו אחרי ה-SPE, תוך התמקדות במבנים פרוזודיים (מבנה הברה ומבנה מטרי) והממשק בין פונולוגיה ומורפולוגיה (עם דגש על מורפולוגיה שמית). נתחיל עם בחינה ביקורתית של התיאוריה המבוססת על חוקים ונמשיך עם העקרונות של תיאוריית האופטימליות, המבוססת על אילוצים. השוואה בין התיאוריות תיערך לגבי כל נושא.
במהלך הקורס נעקוב אחר הירידה במעמדם של החוקים, אשר היו במרכזה של התיאוריה הסטנדרטית, והעלייה במעמדם של הייצוגים הלא-לינארים והאילוצים על הייצוגים. בסופה של ההתפתחות התיאורטית עומדת תיאוריית האופטימליות, המתבססת על אילוצים בלבד.
דרישות קדם: פונולוגיה מתחילים
חובות הקורס: נוכחות בשעורים ובתרגילים, קריאת מאמרים (17-14), מטלות ועבודה מקורית.
Course description
Advanced Phonology
Outi Bat-El
This course introduces post-SPE theories of Generative Phonology, with reference to prosodic structure (syllable structure and metrical structure) and phonology-morphology interface (with emphasis on Semitic morphology). We will start with a critical view on the rule-based theory and then get acquainted with the basics of constraint-based approach of Optimality Theory (OT). For each topic we will compare the pre-OT theories of the 80’ with the OT accounts.
Throughout the course we will observe the deterioration in the status of rules, which were the center of attention in the standard theory, and the rise of non-linear representations and constraints on representations. At the end of the theoretical development stands the constraint-based approach of OT, which eliminates the rules entirely.
Prerequisites: Beginning Phonology
Course requirements: Attendance in lectures and sections, reading (14-17 articles), assignments, an original paper.
