בקורס זה ננתח דפוסים שונים של מאבק הנשים לעיצוב זהותן הלאומית בחברות שונות במזרח התיכון ובאפריקה במאה העשרים. ניתוח זה יתמקד בתקופות של מלחמות העצמאות ולאחריהן- במהלך יצירת מדינת הלאום וגיבוש זהותה המגדרית. נתמקד בעיקר בניתוח כתבים של היסטוריוניות, סוציולוגיות, סופרות ופעילות פמיניסטיות, ונבחן את תרומתן לעיצוב היסטוריוגרפיות לאומיות. בקורס ישולבו גם צפייה ודיון בקטעי סרטים עלילתיים ודוקומנטריים.Course description
During our study we will focus in analyzing different patterns of women's struggle to shape their identity in various societies in the Middle East and Africa during the twentieth century. The analysis will focus in periods of independence wars and beyond- during the creation of the national polity and the consolidation of its gender identity. We will survey the writings of historians, sociologists, fiction writers and feminist activists. During the semester we will also watch and analyze documentary movies and features films.
