* דרישת קדם: שו"ת חברה, משטר ותרבות בעת החדשה המוקדמת*בעידן הרפורמציה ומלחמות הדת, נשים וגברים באזורים אירופים שונים עברו ממחנה דתי אחד למשנהו. סמינר זה מבקש לבחון את המאפיינים היחודיים שהיו להמרות הדת של גברים ושל נשים, תוך התיחסות לנסיבות, לאופי ולהשלכות שנודעו להפיכתם של מוסלמים, יהודים, ופרוטסטנטים לקתולים במאות השש-עשרה והשבע-עשרה.
במהלך הקורס ננתח מספר סוגים של מקורות בני התקופה, וביניהם יומנים, מכתבים, חיבורי תעמולה, דרשות, ביוגרפיות וכרוניקות של מנזרים. כמו-כן, נקרא מחקרים מהעשורים האחרונים העוסקים בסוגיות כמו זהותם של המומרים ויחסה של החברה הסובבת אליהם.
Course description
In the age of Reformation and religious warfare, women and men in various European regions changed their confessional identity. In this seminar, we will discuss the traits of female and male conversions in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, exploring the circumstances, characterstics and implications of the conversion of Muslims, Jews, and Protestants to Catholicism. We will analyze various types of sources, including diaries, letters, propagandistic tracts, sermons, biographies, and convent chroniclers, and discuss recent scholarship dealing with issues such as converts' identity and attitudes towards converts.
