D:\Inetpub\shared\yedion\syllabus\06\2014\0608\0608420201_desc.txt סילבוס מקוצר הרעיונות והשפה של הפסיכולוגיה, הפסיכיאטריה והפסיכואנליזה משפיעים היום על כל תחומי החיים החל מיחסי גברים ונשים, יחסי הורים וילדים, הדיבור והטיפול בטראומות מלחמה, ההבחנה בין הטרוסקסואליות והומוסקסואליות והדיבור על מיעוטים מיניים, הטיפול בקשיים נפשיים והקיטלוג של ספקטרום הרגשות האנושיים. אולם כיצד התפתחה ההיסטוריה של הפסיכולוגיה, הפסיכיאטריה והפסיכואנליזה וכיצד הגיעו מדעי העצמי הללו לעמדת השפעה כה רחבה על חיי נשים, גברים וילדים בעת המודרנית מהמאה ה-18 ועד היום? הסמינר בוחן מקרוב שאלות מפתח בהיסטוריה של מדעי האדם בתרבות המערב, תוך הדגשת השפעתן השונה של דיסציפלינות אלו על גברים ונשים ועל יחסי מגדר ודימוייו. הסמינר יעסוק בסוגיות היסטוריות כגון מגדר והתפתחות הפסיכולוגיה והפסיכיאטריה המודרנית; המדיקליזציה של הבדלים מגדריים ואתניים; רפואה, גבריות ואנטישמיות; הפסיכולוגיה של המיניות ומדע הסקסולוגיה; מדע ומיעוטים מיניים; מגדר, נוירוזה וטראומה; נשים, גברים ופסיכואנליזה; היסטריה ומגדר; הלם קרב, מלחמה וגבריות; העצמי המודרני ו"תרבות הפרוזק". מטלת סיום: עבודה סמינריונית / רפארט מרכיבי הציון באחוזים: נוכחות, השתתפות, בחירה ואישור נושא עבודה 30%, ציון עבודה (רפרט או סמינר) 70% Course description The language and ideas of psychology, psychiatry and psychoanalysis are influencing almost all areas of everyday life today from gender relations, to parent-child interactions, to the discourse and treatment of war trauma, discussions of sexuality and of sexual minorities and the treatment and taxonomy of human emotions and mental predicaments. But how did these sciences of the self grow into such influential roles, impacting the lives of men, women and children from the 18th century to today? In this seminar we will concentrate on psychiatry, psychology and psychoanalysis and explore how they shaped and remade the lives of modern men and women and gender relations. Using interdisciplinary scholarship from history, critical theory, and psychology topics will include: gender and the birth of modern psychiatry and psychology; the medicalization of gender and ethnic difference; psychology and the history of sexuality; sexology; gender, neurosis and trauma; psychoanalysis, men and women; gender and hysteria; gender, science and anti-Semitism; masculinity, war and shell shock; and gender and the rise of the “Prozac Nation.”

Course description

The language and ideas of psychology, psychiatry and psychoanalysis are influencing almost all areas of everyday life today from gender relations, to parent-child interactions, to the discourse and treatment of war trauma, discussions of sexuality and of sexual minorities and the treatment and taxonomy of human emotions and mental predicaments. But how did these sciences of the self grow into such influential roles, impacting the lives of men, women and children from the 18th century to today?

In this seminar we will concentrate on psychiatry, psychology and psychoanalysis and explore how they shaped and remade the lives of modern men and women and gender relations.
