מהי הזיקה בין הז'אנר הטלוויזיוני לבין התרבות בה הוא נוצר ורווח? האם ניתן לאפיין ז'אנר טלוויזיוניים ייחודיים לתרבות הטלוויזיה הישראלית? מהי הזיקה בין היצירה לטלוויזיה וצריכתה לבין תחומים משיקים בתרבות ובאמנות? כיצד מתבטאת מיתולוגיה טלוויזיונית מקומית ספציפית וכיצד נוסחים שונים של מיתולוגיה טלוויזיונית צוברים משמעויות תרבותיות מקומיות בישראל לעומת ארה"ב? בסמינר זה נבחן את הייצוגים של חבורות בטלוויזיה ישראלית בפרספקטיבה היסטורית תרבותית. נבחן כיצד ייצוגים אלה מבטאים תהליכים של יצירה מקומית מקורית לטלוויזיה, את הזיקה בין הבדיון הספרותי, הקולנועי והטלוויזיוני בתרבות הישראלית, היבטים עממיים ומיתיים בתרבות הטלוויזיה המקומית, תמורות בערכים ואידיאולוגיות כפי שהן מתבטאות בטופוס ובז'אנר של החבורה הטלוויזיונית, והשוואה בין תרבותית של החבורה הטלוויזיונית בישראל ובארה"ב.
Television culture is conceptualized as a repertory of textual forms, a site of cultural representation, a story teller and a communal arena for the performance and negotiation of collective values, priorities and contradictions. This seminar traces a recurring paradigm on the Israeli screen- big and small: the group. It examines its dynamic-historic instances, which manifest changing priorities and agenda in the culture; it compares the cinematic and televisual variations of the story, in order to characterize distinctive features of Israeli television culture; it compares Israeli and American variants of this narrative, generic and mythic paradigm, hence considering local variations of a global format as well as distinctive national myths as materialized on television.
