Course description

The course will examine the way in which classicism and romanticism are combined in the symphonies of Robert Schumann. Shcumann  is a major figure in the romantic movement and is well-known for the novelty in his use of form, harmony rhythm and expression. On the other hand, we can trace  the great influence of baroque and classical ideas. The combination of romantic and classical ideas is demonstrated in his 4 symphonies and contributes to their originality of musical ideas and expression.
