דרישות הקורס וחובות התלמידים:

נוכחות חובה בכל המפגשים שייערכו במוזיאון ישראל  (ארבעה שיעורים כפולים, תאריכים מפורטים מטה)

קריאת ספרות לפני השיעור כפי שיפורסם ברשימת הקריאה

הצגת רפרט בכיתה (כעשרים דקות) על נושא שיוחלט יחד עם המרצה ובאישורה.

מטלת סוף קורס: עבודה בנושא שיאושר ע״י המרצה, רצוי הקשור לנושא הרפרט, אך אינו חייב להיות.

מרכיבי הציון הסופי:% 20 הצגת רפרט בכיתה, % 80 עבודת סוף קורס.

סילבוס מקוצר בעברית (ידיעון)

הסדנה תתמקד בתולדות האמנות במצרים ובמזרח הקדום החל מהאלף הרביעי לפסה״נ ועד לתקופה הטרום-קלאסית, בין היתר באמצעות דוגמאות נבחרות מהאוסף הארכיאולוגי של מוזיאון ישראל.

הסדנה תפתח במבוא היסטורי וארכיאולוגי של מצרים ודרום הלבנט בתקופות הברונזה והברזל (3500 עד 586 לפסה״נ). המשתתפים יידרשו להשיג שליטה בסיסית בחלוקה לתקופות ארכיאולוגיות ובמסגרת הכרונולוגית של מצרים והמזרח הקדום.

לאחר מכן ייסקרו סוגי הביטויים האמנותיים העולים מהממצא הארכיאולוגי, לרבות ציור, פיסול, אדריכלות, תבליט, גילוף בעץ, באבן, בשנהב ובעצם, אמנות הצורף והקדר. על אלו יתווספו שאלות על משמעותם הפונקציונאלית והתרבותית של חפצי האמנות ותפקידם במגוון האינטראקציות האנושיות כגון פולחן המתים, סגידה לאלים, שימוש בחפצי נוי, יוקרה ויום-יום. במסגרת זו יושם דגש על עקרונות האמנות המלכותית הקנונית וההבדלים בינה לבין האמנות הפרטית. במקביל ייבחנו התפתחויות טיפולוגיות של חפצים נבחרים לאורך צירי הזמן והמרחב. חלק זה של הסדנה יתבסס במידה רבה על התנסות אישית של המשתתפים עם מוצגי המוזיאון.

בסיום הסדנה יידונו מספר סוגיות בנושאי עיצוב וסגנון המעסיקות את המחקר הארכיאולוגי העדכני, כדוגמת הסגנון ה״בינלאומי״ בגילוף השנהבים בתקופת הברונזה, סגנון העיטור הפלשתי ואמנות המלחמה במצרים העתיקה.

A Time for every Purpose – Archaeological Workshop in Ancient Art History

The workshop will focus on art history in Egypt and the Ancient Near East from the 4^th millennium BCE to the pre-classic era, by means of studying select examples from the archaeological collection of the Israel Museum.

The workshop will begin with a historical and archaeological introduction of Egypt and the southern Levant during the Bronze and Iron Ages. The students will be expected to achieve a basic knowledge of the division into archaeological periods and the chronological framework of Egypt and the Ancient Near East.

The workshop will continue with a survey of the archaeological forms of artistic expressions, including painting, sculpture, architecture, relief, crafting in wood, stone, ivory and bone, the potter and the jeweler’s art. The functional and cultural significance of these works of art will be discussed, as well as their role in the variety of human interaction: cult of the dead, worship of the gods, the pursuit of esthetics, prestige and functionality. Within this framework, special emphasis will be put on the difference between the principles of royal-canonic art and their application in the private sector. Select objects will be examined “hands on” for their typological evolution over time and space.

The workshop will conclude by discussing several stylistic issues in current archaeological debate, such as the “international” style of Bronze Age ivory carving, the Philistine decorative style and the art of war in ancient Egypt.
