תיאור הקורס

מטרת השיעור לבחון את המיתוסים הפחות מרכזיים ולעיתים הפחות מפורסמים בעולם היווני והרומי, כפי שהם מוצאים ביטויים ביצירות אמנות מגוונות בתחומים ובמדיה השונים כציור ופסיפס, פיסול ותבליט, אמנות "גבוהה", אמנות "רשמית" ואמנות "מינורית" או "מיניאטורית." מיתוסים אלה יכולים להיות חלק מהאפוסים הגדולים כמו האיליאדה והאודיסאה, ובו בזמן מהאפוסים שלא נותרו בשלימותם והעוסקים באותם הנושאיםועם זאת, כה מעט תיאורים מציגים את המיתוס המכונן של הקרבת איפיגניה, למשל, או את המיתוס של אלקסטיס – לא אלה, וכמעט לא גיבורה במובן "הקלאסי" של המילה, ועוד רבים אחרים. חלק מהמיתוסים שיידונו בהחלט קשורים באלים, בעוד האחרים יכולים לכלול גיבורים. כשמגיעים לרומא התיאורים של המיתוס המכונן של ייסוד של רומא אף הם מועטים. למשל, תיאוריה של דידו מלכת קרתגו ויחסיה עם איניאס, או הזאבה המצילה את רומולוס ורמוס.

ננסה לדון בחלק מהנושאים השונים, ויושם דגש על הזיקה שבין טקסט-תיאור חזורי. כן ננסה לעמוד על המשמעויות של הנושאים לאורך התקופות שונות ועל אופני הביטוי החזותי שלהם.

במסגרת הקורס נדון בנושאים השונים.

Description of the course:

The aim of this course is to examine the less famous or central myths in the Greek and Roman world as reflected in the different myths such as painting and mosaics, sculpture and relief, as well as issues concerning high art, official art, minor arts or miniatures. These occasionally allegedly secondary myths could be part of the great eposes such as the Iliad and the Odyssey of Homer, but could also derive from other texts, which we know only from fragments such as The Little Iliad. We shall concentrate on those myths more rarely depicted such as the story of Iphigenia, or that of Alcestis – a myth dealing primarily with interrelations between human beings rather than Gods: The myths represented in this course could, however, concern Gods; deities, heroes, kings and even very simple people.

What will also interest us is the interrelation text-visual representation and their meanings, and therefore we will follow their changes and modification in the different periods in Antiquity. The Roman myths are even less dealt with, for example the drama of Dido and Aeneas, or the she-wolf who saved Romulus and Remus.
