אמנות תכופות מתארת מצבים הדומים במהותם לאלו המדומיינים על ידי הפילוסוף הסקפטי, בהם בלתי ניתן להשיג ראיות שתקבענה כי יש בכוחם של ייצוגים להיות נאמנים לדברים לכשעצמם (לעולם, לטבע, למטאפיסיקיה ועוד). האמנות הסקפטית מאתגרת את המערכות השגורות בדבר קיומן של ראיות היכולות לשמש כמבדילות בין העולם הממשי, המציאות, ועולם נגדי המופיע באופנים שונים כבעל זהות מוחלטת לעולם הממשי. יש הטוענים כי אנו כלואים "בעידן תמונת-העולם," Zeit des Weltbildes" כפי שהציגו זאת וויטגנשטיין והיידיגר. בהינתן כי אנו שבויים בתרבות המעצבת את מושגי היסוד הקובעים את תצורות יחסינו עם העולם, כאשר העולם עצמו אינו ניתן בשלמותו לשיח או לתנאי שיח קבועים, אזי, אי הוודאות המתכוננת ביחסים אלו פותחת צוהר לניסיונות לנסח את טבעו המוגבל ואולי אף הסופי של ידע אובייקטיבי ביחס לעולם. קורס זה יתמקד בצוהר זה הניתן לאמנות באורח מועדף על האפיסטימולוגיה, כאשר זו הראשונה נכשלת בניסיונותיה לנסח את כינונו של ידע אובייקטיבי ויחסו לעולם. במהלך הקורס נתמקד ביחסים שבין סקפטיציזם וסופיות ונשים דגש על יחסי התלות שבין סקפטיציזם ואמנות.

Art if often concerned with situations similar to those imagined by the skeptic philosopher, where one cannot attain strong evidence to prove the relations between representation and the world. When considered in artistic production art challenges the fabrication of knowledge while setting new relations with the world and reality. Some maintain that we are bounded in “world-pictures” (Zeit des Weltbildes) as argued by Wittgenstein and Heidegger. This course will ask how we may think of modern and contemporary art through skepticism, doubt and uncertainty. The question at hand will explore how art may offer a systematic process akin to methodological skepticism to thus afford us an insight into the questions of the existence of external reality and the finite nature of objective knowledge. Allying with the skeptic, we will concentrate on the exploration of the limits of perception, problems of judgment,
