תיאור הקורס:  

המבוא מציע סקירה רחבה של מושגי יסוד בהבנת האמנות, האדריכלות, אמנות החפץ, הקליגרפיה, והאורנמנט של עמי האסלאם–  ערבים, פרסים וטורקים – מתוך התבוננות ביצירות מופת של אמנות זאת ובמודלים לפרשנותן. חלק ב': התפארת, עוסק באדריכלות, אמנות החפץ וציור כתבי-יד מוסלמיים בתפארתם בימי-הביניים המאוחרים, למן עליית השושלות הטורקיות במאה ה 11 ועד למאה ה 19. בין השאר, נעסוק בהתפתחות האדריכלות המוסלמית והדימוי הפיגורטיבי בציור הפרסי וההודי-מוגולי.

The introductory course offers a general survey of major artworks, basic concepts and terms in the arts of Islamic people and lands – Arabs, Persians, and Turks. It focuses on architecture, objects, calligraphy and ornament, teaching the ways of looking at Islamic artworks and interpreting their subtler meanings. Part II: The Splendour, explores Islamic architecture, art and painting in their periods of splendor during the later Middle Ages, from the rise of the Turkish dynasties in the eleventh century until the nineteenth century. Amongst other artwork, we shall be dealing with the evolution of Islamic architecture and the figurative image in Persian and Indian-Mughal painting.
