מטלת סיום הקורס: 10% בוחן מושגים בתרבות ודת האסלאם. הבוחן נערך באמצע הסמסטר, וציון עובר בבוחן מהווה תנאי מקדים לגשת לבחינה הסופית. הבוחן הינו על שתי החוברות: לצרוס-יפה, חווה, האיסלאם: קווי יסוד, האוניברסיטה המשודרת, תל-אביב, 1980; לצרוס-יפה, חווה, עוד שיחות על דת האיסלאם, האוניברסיטה המשודרת, תל-אביב, 1985. 90% בחינה מסכמת עם שאלות רב-ברירה.           

תיאור הקורס: הקורס מציע סקירה רחבה של מושגי יסוד באמנויות הדמות, האדריכלות, החפץ, הקליגרפיה, והאורנמנט של עמי האסלאם – ערבים, פרסים וטורקים – מתוך התבוננות ביצירות מופת של אמנות זאת ובמודלים לפרשנותן. חלק א' – הראשית: עוסק בראשית אמנות האסלאם ובהתגבשות שפתה הייחודית, על רקע מורשות אמנותיות שכנות, הפרסית- סאסאנית, המרכז-אסיאתית והביזנטית. טווח הזמן הינו ימי הביניים המוקדמים למן עליית האסלאם במאה ה 7, עבור בח'ליפויות הגדולות של האומיים והעבאסים ועד לשנת 1000.

The introductory course offers a general survey of major artworks, concepts and terms in the arts of Islamic people and lands – Arabs, Persians, and Turks. It focuses on figural arts, architecture, objects, calligraphy and ornament, introducing students to the ways of looking at Islamic artworks and interpreting their subtler meanings. Part I – The Beginning: explores the beginnings of Islamic art and its formation of distinct visual language, on the background of neighboring visual traditions, the Persian- Sasanian, the Central-Asian, and the Byzantine. The timespan covers the early Middle Ages from the rise of Islam in the seventh century, through the great Caliphates of the Umayyads, and the Abbasids until about 1000 C.E.
