השיעור יעסוק באלפיים שנות התפתחותה של התרבות היוונית לדורותיה ומאפייניה, החל מהתקדימים האגאיים בתקופות המינואית והמיקנית, ועד להתגבשותה בתקופות הארכאית, הקלאסית וההלניסטית. בקורס יילמדו מבנים הנושאים אופי דתי, ציבורי ופרטי וכן ייעשה ניסיון לבחון את הזיקה שביניהם לבין התפיסות הדתיות, הפוליטיות והחברתיות שרווחו בתקופה. הפיסול היווני האדריכלי והתפתחותו, החל מפיסול כמעט שטוח ועד לפיסול תלת מימדי, כמבטא תפיסות דתיות, חברתיות ופוליטיות ואת מקומם של האלים והאדם בעולם היווני.

The course will deal with the development of 2000 years of Greek culture to its generations and characteristics, starting with Aegean precedents in the Minoan and Mycenaean eras, to its crystallization in the Archaic, Classical ands Hellenistic periods. In this course we will survey religious, public and private edifices as well as their relation between them and the religious, political and social concepts prevalent in the relevant period. The development of the Greek architectonic sculpture from ‘bas relief’ to three dimensional sculpture and size will be studied as manifesting mainly the place of the gods and that of the human being in the Greek world and as expressing the religious, social and political concept of the Greek world.

הקורס הינו קורס מבוא וייערך כהרצאות פרונטאליות מלוות בשקופיות.
התלמידים יידרשו גם לקריאה של פרקים מסוימים בספרות המחקר, שיהוו חלק מהבחינה המסכמת.
בסיומו של הקורס תתקיים בחינה מסכמת במתכונת של "בחינה אמריקאית" (סגורה).
