Course description This course will expose the student to the principles that underline our understanding of how and why the Earth evolves. Topics include the wide variety of processes associated with geological activity, the study of which is aimed at developing an appreciation for geological time, plate tectonics and many of the Earth's cycles. Other topics to be discussed include the solar system; the structure and composition of the earth’s surface, subsurface, and deep interior processes; rock formation and transformation; mountain building; plate tectonics; earthquakes; volcanoes, and geomorphologic processes.
