Culture and Contemporary Music in China This course will examine popular culture and contemporary music in China through various historical, social and political perspectives. The lectures and discussions will focus on historical transformations and milestones that have affected China’s cultural atmosphere since the late 1970s, and look into the role its music scenes, streams, voices and other expressions have played in representing, reflecting, shaping and reshaping its complex realities today.
