מאז המקרא ועד לתרבות הישראלית בזמננו עומדת דמותו של "הקדוש" העממי במרכזן של תפיסות עולם, מחלוקות ובעיקר – סיפורים. הקורס יבחן, באמצעות עיון בדמויות המרכזיות בתקופת המקרא, ספרות חז"ל, ימי הביניים וראשית העת החדשה, את הזיקה שבין הביוגרפיה ההיסטורית של הדמות והמיתוסים והאגדות שנרקמו סביבן, ואת מקומם של הסיפורים הללו בתרבות היהודית של תקופתם.Course description
The concept of “sainthood”, and the “saint” stands in the center of Jewish culture since its inception in the Hebrew Bible. However, this concept found its expression not only in religion and ideology, but mainly in stories – legends of the saints, which were the main vehecle in transmitting religious and moral norms to the larger layers of Jewish society. We shall study the affinity between the historical biography and narrative myths and legends regarding the saints along Jewish cultural history since the Bible to Early Modern culture.
