D:\Inetpub\shared\yedion\syllabus\06\2014\0662\0662176101_desc.txt סילבוס מקוצר יש מי שהאקולוגיה מייצגת עבורם דיסציפלינה מדעית החוקרת את יחסי הגומלין בין אורגניזמים וסביבתם. עבור אחרים אקולוגיה הינה מילה נרדפת לתנועה הסביבתית שנולדה בשנות ה-60 של המאה ה-20 ולהשלכותיה הפוליטיות. שיעור זה מבקש להביט בשורשים ההיסטוריים ובהתפתחותה של האקולוגיה כשיטה מדעית אך בעיקר כאידיאולוגיה שגילמה מאוויים רוחניים, דתיים ואף לאומיים לאורך דורות. במהלך הקורס נביט, אם כן, בתכנים של תנועות רוחניות ותרבותיות שהניפו את דגל האקולוגיה ובמסגרת זו, נברר, בין השאר, מהי אקולוגיה נוצרית, מה בין אקולוגיה לנאורות, "ההיסטוריה של הטבע" כאקולוגיה, אקולוגיה ארקדיאנית למול אקולוגיה פסטורלית, דרוויניזם ואקולוגיה, האקולוגיה והסיפור האמריקאי ומה טיב הזיקות שהתקיימו בין האקולוגיה והתנועה הרומנטית. בנוסף, נעסוק ברקע הפוליטי המיוחד לרעיונות האקולוגיים כפי שבאו לידי ביטוי בתקופות השונות ולמשל, הקשר בין התפתחות המחשבה האקולוגית והאימפריאליזם של המאה ה-19, כמו גם, הולדת האקולוגיה המודרנית בתוך תרבות הנגד של שנות ה-60 שאז הפכה האידיאולוגיה האקולוגית לכוח פוליטי ולמסד גלובלי של התנועה הסביבתית. אופן סיום הקורס: ראה/י ידיעון הפקולטה Course description This course introduces students to the historical roots of the ecological and environmental thinking. We will examine what is distinctive about this field ofhistory as it provides us with explanations to the contrasting discourses of the ecological thought. We shall examine the eco-centric approach in contrast to the techno-centric attitude by compering between Gilbert White's Arcadia and the 'imperial' approach represented in Carl Linnaeans writings. This dialectical scheme will guide us through the course and direct us to look closely upon various topics such as: Romanticism and ecology; Green Colonialism; William Morris and the environment as revolution; the American frontier and the "Machine in the Garden"; Thoreau, Emerson and the birth of the ecological holism; counterculture and environmentalism and, Cultural Ecology as Cyber-ecology. As these subjects of conversation suggest, the principle goal of the course isto introduce the student to some of the vital ideas, scholarly trends, andmethods that inform our efforts to gain historical perspective on matters of environment and ecology as cultural entities.

Course description

This course introduces students to the historical roots of the ecological and environmental thinking. We will examine what is distinctive about this field ofhistory as it provides us with explanations to the contrasting discourses of the ecological thought. We shall examine the eco-centric approach in contrast to the techno-centric attitude by compering between Gilbert White's Arcadia and the 'imperial' approach represented in Carl Linnaeans writings. This dialectical scheme will guide us through the course and direct us to look closely upon various topics such as:
Romanticism and ecology; Green Colonialism; William Morris and the environment as revolution; the American frontier and the "Machine in the Garden"; Thoreau, Emerson and the birth of the ecological holism; counterculture and environmentalism and, Cultural Ecology as Cyber-ecology.
