Course description
History and Historians in Antiquity
From the invention of historiography by the ancient Greeks, through its development in the literary and material cultures of Greece and Rome, its adoption by Christian historians and its continuation into the middle ages: a sweeping survey of the origins, development, surprises, varieties and art of historiography. Each week will focus on a different historian, period or subject in ancient historiography. It is a wide, rich inexhaustible world encompassing concepts of time, causality, rhetoric, psychology, philosophy.
