D:\Inetpub\shared\yedion\syllabus\06\2014\0621\0621118401_desc.txt סילבוס מקוצר מטרת השיעור תהיה להבהיר מושגי יסוד ומונחים שגורים בתחומי המחשבה והפוליטיקה העוסקים בסוגיית הלאומיות. כאשר אומרים עמים למה מתכוונים? מה ההבדל בין עמים ולאומים? האם כל הקבוצות המדומיינות הן אומות? מה מקור עוצמתה של הזהות הלאומית? מה יחסיה של הלאומיות עם הריבונות, המעמדות החברתיים, הלשון, הדת, הטריטוריה? האם קיימים הבדלים בין זהויות לאומיות בתרבות המערב לזהויות לאומיות בעולם החוץ אירופי? מדוע כל זהות לאומית מדמה את עצמה כיוצאת דופן, ועד כמה ייחודית כל תודעה לאומית ביחס לכל האחרות? שאלות אלה ורבות אחרות יהוו את הצירים המרכזיים בהרצאות. הדיונים לא יתמקדו רק במנגנוני ההמשגה ולא יהיו רק מופשטים. היסטוריוגרפיות לאומיות שונות יעמדו תחת שבט הביקורת וייבחנו במקביל נרטיבים אלטרנטיביים אפשריים לסיפורי העמים המסורתיים. Course description The objective of this course is to clarify key terms and concepts in nationalism-related fields of political and academic thought. When we talk about peoples, what do we mean? What is the difference between nations and peoples? Are all imagined communities nations? What makes national identity so powerful? How does nationality relate to sovereignty, social classes, language, religion, territory? Is there any difference between national identities in western culture and national identities in other cultures? Why does every national identity consider itself unique, and how different is one national identity from another? Questions such as these will be at our course infrastructure. The lectures will go beyond theoretical conceptual discussions. Different national historiographies will be scrutinized and considered alongside narratives alternative to the accepted traditional stories of peoples and nations.
