Course description

1 Semester Unit

New Venture Initiation is, and will continue to be, a fundamental building block to social and economic change globally. For example, we know that new venture initiation is important because it is associated with game-changing expressions in healthcare and education, which is critical to the development of new and more efficient use of resources associated with continued population growth. This class builds on these assumptions plus related teaching in creativity and innovation to help you further refine your vision and prepare for execution. Using a range of case studies, this class will help you think past the point of preliminary market validation to help you consider the following: How do you segment your customer market?, and how does this change over time What are the operating implications of your business? How will you consider distribution? And what are the implications for fund-raising and valuation? Putting these items together is critical to maximize your chances of success. Even if you have not yet developed your vision, you will want to take this class in order to begin your preparation. No business ends the way in which it was initially conceptualized and early, repeated interaction with these key concepts will enable you to adapt and remain flexible in order to uniquely-- and effectively - solve new challenges as you build your new venture in the months and years ahead.
