Prerequisites: 0555.3140 Biomechanics, 0555.3150 Biomaterials, 0555.3160 Cell and Tissue Engineering, 0555.4760 Research Methods in Cell and Tissue Engineering (2) (starting from 2011).

This course covers biomechanical aspects of tissue injury, disease and healing, primarily in the musculoskeletal system. The course is of advanced nature, and builds upon courses in biomechanics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It opens with an overview of the engineering principles in biomechanical analyses of injury, disease and healing, as well as of state-of-the-art research methods including computational simulations and cell- and tissue- engineered model systems. Later, part of the course will be dedicated for presentation, discussion and critical review of student projects which will focus on model simulations of damage and repair in cells and tissues of the musculoskeletal system.
