Prerequisites: Introduction to the Theory of Elasticity- 0542.4221
Anisotropic elasticity. Review of transformation laws for vectors, second order tensors, and fourth order tensors. Definition of different classes of elastic symmetry.
Engineering constants for orthotropic materials and transversely isotropic materials.
Love-Kirchoff theory of laminated fiber reinforced plates. Cross-ply laminates. Angle-ply laminates. Thermoelasticity of fiber reinforced laminated plates. Strength theories of laminated plates. Introduction to the determination of the effective properties of composite materials from the properties of their constituents. Homogeneous boundary conditions. Average strain and stress theorems. The dilute approximation for the effective properties.
