המרחב העירוני משמש כזירה חשובה לפיתוח כלכלי ולבנית זהויות לאומיות ותרבותיות בטאיוואן ובסין מאז 1949. למרות ההבדלים המשמעותיים בסביבה הפוליטית והכלכלית ומערכת היחסים המורכבת בין טאיוואן לסין, ניתן לזהות דמיון רב (כמו גם הבדלים מסוימים) בדרך בה משמש המרחב העירוני לעיצוב זהות לאומית, לקידום המטרות הפוליטיות והכלכליות, ולהתמודדות עם בעיות חברתיות. הקורס יבחן את תהליכי הפיתוח העירוני בטאיוואן ובסין, כשהוא ממקם אותם בקונטקסט המקומי של הקשרים בין טאיוואן לסין וכן בקונטקסט הגלובלי של פיתוח כלכלי ועירוני.

Urban space has been an important arena for economic and cultural development and the construction of identities in Taiwan and China since 1949. Used as a key tool to develop national identity, enhance changing political and economic agendas, and address social problems and needs, the development of urban space in both Taiwan and China has many similarities, even as it developed within such different political and economic environments. The course will investigate the ongoing spatial reconstruction of Taiwan and China’s urban spaces and culture, situating this development within the context of local and global political and economic changes and the dynamics of cross-straits economic, political, and cultural relationship. The course will aim at providing the students with in-depth knowledge about the urbanization processes in Taiwan and China and will encourage them to conduct small scale research work, as part of the course assignments, on different aspects of these processes.

הציון בקורס יינתן על בסיס תרגיל מסכם שיתמקד בניתוח שני אתרים מרחבים, האחד בטאיוואן והשני בסין. התרגיל יכלול 3 חלקים:

ניתוח מאמר אקדמי העוסק באתר/ים (או בנושאים הרחבים יותר הקשורים לאתר) והשוואה למקור לא אקדמי העוסק בנושא (מאמר בעיתון, בלוג, סרט – מקור המפתח נרטיב מסוים בנושא ועוסק גם באתר ספציפי ולא רק בנושא הרחב)

אתר יכול להיות (לדוגמא): בנין מרכזי (פוליטי, כלכלי, תרבותי), רחוב, כיכר, פארק, קניון (מרכז מסחרי), מוזיאון (מרכזי תרבות), שוק, שכונת יוקרה/סלאם, בנין/אזור הרוס/נטוש.

מה הנושא בו עוסק המאמר האקדמי? מה השאלות אותן הוא שואל וכיצד הוא מנסה לענות עליהן? האם המתודולוגיה שנבחרה מתאימה/מספיקה? מהם המקורות המשמשים את הכותב/ים? האם ישנן בעיות/נושאים חסרים/עיוותים?

מה הנושא בו עוסק המקור הלא אקדמי? מה הנקודות המרכזיות שעולות בו? באיזה דרכים הוא משתמש בכדי לגעת בנקודות אלו? מהם המקורות המשמשים את הכותב/ים? האם ישנן בעיות/נושאים חסרים/עיוותים?

כיצד ניתן להשוות בין שני המקורות? מה היתרונות והחסרונות של כל מקור? מה תרם לכם כל אחד מהמקורות להבנת נושא העבודה?

תיאור מפורט של האתרים הנבחרים – מפות, תמונות, תיאור מילולי – כולל התייחסות לאתר עצמו ולסביבה בה הוא נמצא

ניתוח ויזואלי – מה מצולם (האם יש משהו שחוזר על עצמו, האם יש אלמנטים המופיעים בתמונות מסוימות וחסרים באחרות), מאיזה פרספקטיבה, מי מצלם (האם זה משנה את התוכן של התמונה), מה מודגש?

השוואה וניתוח – איזה מרכיבים מקומיים/גלובליים יש לאתר? האם מעבר למרכיבים הגלובליים ניתן לזהות קשר בין האתרים? כיצד מתקשרים האתרים לנושאים הרחבים (זהות לאומית, לגיטימציה פוליטית, פיתוח כלכלי, גלובליזציה, בעיות חברתיות) שעלו בקורס ובמאמרים (שניתחתם בחלק ה-1)?

יש לשלוח לי לאישור את האתרים הנבחרים עד לסוף הסמסטר. לא ניתן להגיש את עבודת הסיום ללא אישור מוקדם של האתרים.
