Course description

This is a continuation course of the “Introduction in Remote Sensing” course (or equivalent) and aims at expanding the student physical knowledge about remote sensing in general and on optical remote sensing in particular. The course will have both theoretical and practical parts and is a basis advance course in remote sensing such as: hyperspectarl remote sensing (see other syllabus). The main topics are: electromagnetic radiation, Plank equation and its derivatives, atmospheric windows and shelters, sensors’ optics, sensor’s platforms, spatial and spectral arrangement of RS data, the eyes and the brain as analogue for optical remote sensing means, preparation of raw data for analysis, radiometric and atmospheric calibrations, QA/QI of RS data, classification based on color composite and statistical basis, spatial and spectral filtering, object enhancement, spectral finger print, spectral based classification, validation analysis, supervised and unsupervised classification, geometric correction, space programs, satellites and sensors and the economical impact of the RS technique. The course will be followed by an active tutorial using ENVI software.
Grade will be composed of : 70% exam, 20% exercises, 10% final project.
Prerequisite course: Introduction to Remote Sensing (or equivalent) course.
